- Picking up where Hendrik left off with his first diary, he does not disappoint. Clever, touching, tender, witty, funny, it's written with truth and warmth. Hendrik really comes into his own, proving that one can still change and grow, and old dogs can learn new tricks! It's a book you can't wait to read through, but never want to end. I'm hoping there will be another installment to Hendrik's story-the world could do with more of Hendrik's insights. The characters are written so well you feel as if you know them, and their emotions are vividly portrayed.I understand the first book has been made into a television series in the Netherlands and hope at some point it will be available to be seen with subtitles here in the US. Until then- please, more Hendrik!!
- I read book one Hendrik Groen 83 1/4 years old and loved it, this book was also as good. Hendrik is a witty, lovable character, his descriptions of life in the Nursing Home is both funny and bittersweet. So glad to have book 2, On the Bright Side 85 yrs. old, now I hope another book is one the way soon as I have come to miss not reading about Hendriks life and perspectives on growing old. Highly recommend both books.

Totally enjoyed it. - Oh how I love Hendrik Groen! He is funny and witty and very realistic! I've read both his "diaries" and chuckled right out loud on many occasions!
